“Refgraph Fine” takes advantage of the unique qualities of Echizen Washi while carefully applying tonal corrections to freshly input image data. During this process, multiple layers of adjustment data are built up to achieve ultra-high precision printing. In essence, the data is separated into the three primary colors of light—RGB (red, green, and blue)—and layered to create a single digital ‘plate.’

“Refgraph Fine” is an original technique that applies a special glaze to the surface of Echizen Washi, a traditional Japanese craft. Preserving the paper’s distinctive texture and natural hue, it achieves an exceptional color gamut and refined monochrome gradation, excelling at reproducing the subtle tones and profound depth inherent in fine art. The pigment inks used in “Refgraph Fine” resist degradation from light and ozone in the air, ensuring excellent lightfastness and ozone resistance. With superior archival stability, they preserve the vibrancy of prints over many years. Furthermore, the inks possess high water resistance, preventing dissolution in water and maintaining the enduring beauty of each print.”

While faithfully reproducing the original artwork is our foremost principle, each piece undergoes a meticulous process of discussion between the artist and the operator (the specialist who manages digital adjustments). Through repeated collaboration, tonal corrections are applied to reflect the artist’s intent, thereby achieving the ideal color expression.
